Chery denies seeking loans to finance jv with jaguar land rover - China TPR Boots

    0
Chery has denied media accusations that it has been seeking a sixbillion yuan ($951m) loan for its new joint venture with JaguarLand Rover, China Business News reported today. In an interview with the paper, Chery AssistantGeneral Manager Jin Yibo asserted that the reports were inaccurate, adding that the joint venture was still awaiting approval and that,as such, it was too soon to decide on any other specifics. According to recent reports, Chery has been in negotiations withvarious banks to secure loans to provide a financial foundation forits new JV. "There have been no such [talks]," Mr. Jinsaid. The much anticipated partnership between Chery and Jaguar LandRover was officially confirmed in late March. Both manufacturerswould establish a jointly owned JV company in China with the goalof developing and selling Jaguar, Land Rover and own brand vehiclesin the country. According to their agreement, both manufacturerswill invest 17.5 billion yuan ($2.77m) in building a new productionsite, which is scheduled to begin operation in July 2014. Uponcompletion the site will boast a production capability of 180,000vehicles. Zhang Zhiyong, an independent industry analyst based in Beijing, believes that, given its current situation, it will be verydifficult for Chery to provide the agreed upon 8.75 billion yuan($1.39b) for the new factory. Mr. Zhang's assertions seem to bebacked by Chery's own handbook on its finances released lastSeptember. According to the handbook, the manufacturer estimatesthat its monetary demands will total 11.5 billion yuan ($1.69b) by2015 and 30 billion yuan ($4.42b) by 2020. Other reports revealthat three billion yuan ($475.71m) for its seven billion yuan($1.11b) Qoros factory in Changshu, Jiangsu was raised by theExport-Import Bank of China. Chery exported a total of 17,400 vehicles in April. Printed Rain Boots

The figure, which is a new monthly record for the manufacturer, is 40.1 percentand 39.1 percent higher than results from March and last April, respectively. With the market for Chinese vehicles overseascontinuing to expand, there is a good chance that Chery's exportsthis month could break the 20,000 unit barrier.

At a Johannesburg , South Africa , news conference May 7, officials from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) , which is part of the World Bank group, and The MasterCardFoundation said they would spend $37.4 million over five years tosupport banks and other institutions across Africa that provide small loans, a strategy known as microfinancing.People around the world have used such loans to lift themselves outof poverty by starting or expanding small businesses, sendingchildren to school, or buying fertilizer for subsistence farms. The MasterCard Foundation was established with funds from MasterCard Worldwide in 2006 and operates independently of the company. QUIZ : Think you know Africa? Take our geography quiz. The IFC-MasterCard Foundation project, the IFC's largest with aprivate foundation, also targets banks and communications companiesthat help mobile phone users send and receive money and get accessto other banking services. Mobile phones have meant people inremote rural areas and urban slums, where banks have been reluctantto build branches, can still get banking services. The IFC, which started investing in microfinance programs in Africain 1997, estimates only between 5 percent and 25 percent of Africanhouseholds have bank accounts or other relationships with financialinstitutions. Reeta Roy, president and chief executive of The MasterCardFoundation, said she and the IFC were seeking to radically expandaccess to banking for Africans at a time when their continent'smiddle class is expanding and political stability is growing. The initiative, she said, is "part of a much, much largerstory. Window Wiper Blades Manufacturer

It's the story of the political, economic, and socialtransformation that's happening across this continent." Thierry Tanoh, the IFC's vice president for sub-Saharan Africa , also was optimistic about Africa's prospects. He added the IFCsees microfinancing and mobile banking as priorities in thecampaign to ensure more Africans have access to banking services. Perhaps the world's best-known microfinance institution, Grameen Bank , was founded in the 1970s in Bangladesh by economist Muhammad Yunus . His pioneering concept giving the poor, women in particularly, small loans to help them build their families and businesses earned Mr. Yunus the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize . Automobile Air Filters

Bit-patterned media for next-generation hard disk drives - Health Kiosks Manufacturer

              0
Posted: May 9th, 2012 Bit-patterned media for next-generation hard disk drives ( Nanowerk News ) Information in most computer memories is stored in the form of'bits' represented by the polarization of tiny magnets on thesurface of memory devices such as the computer's hard drive. Thecapacities of these devices have increased exponentially over thelast 30 years, a feat made possible by progressively reducing thearea taken up by the magnets storing the information. In modernmachines, these magnets are so small that reducing their size anyfurther risks creating unstable data, due to random flipping of thedirection of polarization of the magnets at higher densities. Now, Mojtaba Ranjbar and colleagues at the A*STAR Data StorageInstitute have honed a key technology, called bit-patterned media,to overcome this problem and allow data to be stored at previouslyunattainable densities ( "Anomalous Hall effect measurements on capped bit-patternedmedia" ). CAPTION Bit-patterned media technology replaces the continuous magneticfilm traditionally used in hard drives with an array of small, patterned magnetic dots (see image), each of which stores a bit ofdata. Free Standing Kiosk

By carefully designing the size and shape of these dots, datacan be stored at very high densities without the instability thatwould be encountered if a continuous film were used. Using bit-patterned media, however, is not without its owndifficulties, chief among which is a problem known as 'switchingfield distribution', whereby the magnetic field required to writeor erase data in each dot differs slightly and by an unknownamount. As a result, the magnetic field applied by a hard drivewrite head may be too small, or too large, resulting in dataerrors. Previous work by other researchers sought to minimize the switchingfield distribution problem by covering all of the magnetic dotswith a continuous magnetic film placed on top of the dots, whichalters the magnetic interactions between individual dots. Health Kiosks Manufacturer

Theapproach called 'capped bit-patterned media' traditionally requiresdifferent magnetic materials for the dots and film, introducingadditional fabrication complexity. Ranjbar and co-workers used the same material for the film anddots, and positioned the dots above the film rather than below it.This approach allowed a particularly simple fabrication process, inwhich dots were etched in a controlled fashion, leaving acontinuous, unetched film underneath and obviating the need for aseparate deposition step to introduce a new magnetic material. The researchers found that this simplified process successfullyreduced switching field distribution, and also lowered the fieldstrengths necessary for writing data. Ranjbar comments, "Combinedwith the ease of fabrication, this technology should prove usefulin bit-patterned media for next-generation hard disk drives.". China Lobby Kiosk

More cases but fewer deaths relating to pneumococcal disease - HYUNDAI Fuel Filter Manufacturer

                0
The vaccine given to children to immunise against serious pneumococcal disease does not offer full protection, reveals research from theSahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, finding that the number of cases diagnosed has tripled over thepast 50 years. Each year an estimated 1 million children worldwide die as a resultof pneumococcal disease. Worst affected are those in poorcountries, but pneumococcal bacteria cause disease and suffering inall age groups and in all countries, including Sweden. There are currently two types of active vaccine: polysaccharidevaccines, which protect against more types of pneumococcal bacteriabut cannot be given to children under the age of two, andconjugated vaccines, which can be given to infants but protectagainst fewer types. In his thesis, Erik Backhaus, infection specialist at Sk vdeHospital and doctoral student at the University of Gothenburg'sSahlgrenska Academy, looks at all cases of serious pneumococcaldisease in children and adults in the V stra G taland regionof Sweden between 1998 and 2001. Automobile Air Filters

His studies show that the latestconjugated vaccines theoretically offer protection against around70% of infections. "But around 95% of infections are caused byserotypes covered by the polysaccharide vaccine," says Backhaus."This vaccine cannot be administered to children under two years ofage, which means that it cannot be used in those who need it most." Risk of death is age-related In the worst case, the bacteria cause serious disease from whicharound 10% of patients die within a month of diagnosis. ErikBackhaus shows in his thesis that the risk of dying depends partlyon age and partly on underlying medical conditions, but also thatthe risk is higher for men than women. Interestingly there are alsogeographical variations: fewer serious pneumococcal infections arediagnosed in the over-80s in the Gothenburg area than in otherparts of the V stra G taland region. "This may be due to different routines for admitting patients fromnursing homes to hospital and how often blood cultures areperformed," he explains. HYUNDAI Fuel Filter Manufacturer

More cases, fewer deaths Over the past 45 years the number of cases of severe pneumococcaldisease diagnosed in the Gothenburg area has tripled from 5 to 15cases per 100,000 inhabitants per year. This is probably becausemany more blood cultures are performed these days, meaning thatmore cases are detected. Erik Backhaus' thesis shows that the riskof dying as a result of serious pneumococcal disease has fallensharply since the 1960s, especially among children and youngadults. It is hoped that the recently introduced pneumococcal vaccinationas part of the standard child immunisation programme will reducethe number of infections among both children and adults. Equipment and instrument makers take on communications demands - Truck Mounted LED Display Manufacturer

                  0
The next three to five years will see cellular operators handlingmuch-increased data traffic, indoor coverage, and smart-grid andother applications. Test-instrument manufacturers know they have totranslate these needs into measurement solutions that are scalableto evolve with changing standards and requirements. According to Anritsu , A modular approach is needed so that core technologies can bereused for specific test needs. This enhances rapid time to marketfor test solutions, giving the wireless provider up-to-datemeasurement capabilities for network planning, maintenance, andoptimization. The firm also points to the increased use ofautomation and reporting, as test equipment begins to providefaster and more accurate measurement data with in-depth analysisand diagnostics. Rental LED Display

Such capabilities will ideally be able to becontrolled remotely. Test-instrument and equipment suppliers must also respond to thewireless industry s move toward increased energy efficiency.Darren McCarthy, Technical Marketing Manager for Microwave/RF at Tektronix , states, RF amplifiers are by far the largest consumer ofelectrical energy in a typical wireless basestation and the devicewith the most improvements to be made. At the component level, tools such as active harmonic source and load-pull solutionsprovide the necessary insight on the nonlinear behavior on newdevice technologies. Working in the nonlinear region is key toachieving the theoretical maximum efficiency of a device. Truck Mounted LED Display Manufacturer

Newtopologies are being investigated to enable much more efficientamplifier designs. Test and measurement firms also are preparing to handle demandsbased on the smart grid. Stefan Loeffler, Product Manager forDigital & Photonic Test at Agilent Technologies , explains, Consider that an energy company s network consists of smart meters, combined with a geographicallydistributed grid of detached power sources (such as privately ownedPV panels), energy storage devices (such as electrical cars beingcharged), and, of course, power plants that supply the necessarybase level of energy a state or community uses. It has been foundthat the volatility of the power supply from PV panels (due toweather conditions) is big enough to put the communications networkused to mesh the smart meters into the critical path. Update ratesof smart meters need to be adapted to the expected volatility ofthe energy supply. China Curtain LED Display

India's hindalco posts lower-than-expected profit fall; shares gain - Outdoor Smd LED Display Manufacturer

                    0
MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's Hindalco Industries posted a lower-than-expected 9.6percent drop in quarterly profits, sending its shares up nearly 2percent, as better volumes and higher other income helped limit theimpact of volatile input costs. The non-ferrous metals producer, part of the diversified AdityaBirla Group, said rising energy costs and volatility in metalprices pose a significant challenge but it hopes to contain costpressures through operating efficiencies. "Our near-term outlook remains cautious," said Hindalco's ManagingDirector Debu Bhattacharya. "Aluminium prices are likely to remain subdued, whileIndia-specific cost pressures continue. Our interest costs willalso go up significantly as project expansions kick in," he said. Outdoor LED Screen

Hindalco reported quarterly net profit of 6.4 billion rupees ($120million) for its Indian operations, compared with net profit of7.08 billion rupees a year earlier. Analysts on average had expected profit of 4.79 billion rupees forthe company's fiscal fourth quarter, Thomson Reuters I/B/E/Sshowed. Net sales rose 15 percent to 75.63 billion rupees. Shares in Hindalco, valued by the market at $4.1 billion, closed upnearly 2 percent after the earnings announcement, in a Mumbaimarket that fell more than 2 percent. The stock has traded little changed so far in 2012, compared with anearly 7 percent rise in the main index. Outdoor Smd LED Display Manufacturer

"We expect margins to remain under pressure as we don't see costscoming down in the near future. There is also a lack of clarity ontheir expansion projects," said Bhavesh Chauhan, analyst atMumbai's Angel Broking. The aluminium business, which accounts for a third of revenues butboasts higher margins, reported a 14 percent decline in profitsfrom a year ago, mainly due to a jump in input costs and lowerprices, the company said. The lower margin copper segment, which accounts for two-thirds ofthe total revenue, saw profits jump on better volumes and higherprocessing gains. Outdoor Full Color LED Display

Non-ferrous metal prices have remained under pressure globally overthe past few months on demand uncertainties because of thefestering euro zone debt crisis and softening Chinese demand. Copper futures on the London Metal exchange were trading around$8,127 per tonne, having risen roughly 8 percent so far in 2012.Aluminium futures, at $2,063 a tonne, are up barely 3 percent thisyear. The company, which is trebling aluminium production capacity inIndia to 1.9 million tonnes by 2013 at a cost of about $5 billion, said all project expansions were on track. Hindalco's U.S.-based subsidiary, Novelis, which is the world'slargest producer of rolled aluminium products, has earlierprojected earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation andamortization (EBITDA) of $1.05 billion to $1.08 billion for thefiscal year ended March 31, 2012. Novelis will report its full year earnings on May 22.

Animals should be slaughtered humanely, british veterinaryassociation urges - Serial ATA Hard Disk Drive

                      0
According to a comment by the former president of the BritishVeterinary Association (BVA) in this week's Veterinary Record , slaughtering animals for commercial meat supply without stunningthem first should be banned, or at the very least be curbed. Data suggests that killings in this way have progressively risenover the past decade, even though UK and EU legislation has madeallowances by permitting animals to be slaughtered by slittingtheir throats without being stunned first in order to meet thereligious dietary requirements for Jews and Muslims, as long as itdoes not cause "unnecessary suffering." However, Professor Bill Reilly argues that it does cause suffering. He refers to findings of both the former Animal Welfare Council(FAWC) and the EU funded Dialrel Project. Both encouraged adialogue amongst 11 countries regarding issues on religiousslaughter, and the FAWC concluded: "such a massive injurywould result in very significant pain and distress" before ananimal lost consciousness, stating the practice was "unacceptable." Similar conclusions were drawn at the Dialrel Project, whichwere based on the fact of the throat containing numerous nerveendings. Professor Reilly states that films on YouTube can easily verifythese findings. He states, they: "clearly demonstrate the pain anddistress of obviously still sentient animals after non-stunslaughter." About 2 million animals are slaughtered without stunning for theorthodox Jewish community (Schecita) most of which is poultry, whilst 25% of the entire UK meat market in the UK is Halal meat.According to anecdotal evidence, nearly half of the lambs destinedfor slaughter are killed without being stunned first. ECC DDR2 Ram

Professor Reilly believes that the increase in slaughteringwithout prior stunning may also be due to commercial factors, giventhat these figures far exceed the percentage of religiouscommunities. He points out that abattoirs without stunningfacilities may be cheaper and have a marketing advantage. Hebelieves that, "much of the meat from non-stunned animals ends upon the secular market," yet if they knew where the meat came from,"most consumers would choose not to eat such meat." He declares: "In my view, the current situation is not acceptable and,if we cannot eliminate non-stunning, we need to keep it to theminimum. This means restricting the use of Halal and Kosher meat tothose communities that require it for their religious beliefs, andwhere possible, convincing them of the acceptability of the stunnedalternatives." He continues saying that similar principles could beapplied to slaughtering animals without prior stunning as areapplied for using animals in medical research, i.e. to replace, reduce, and refine. Serial ATA Hard Disk Drive

He underlines that a tolerant society must respectdifferent religious beliefs and that the challenge is to reconcilethese beliefs with animal welfare. He states that the key insucceeding is ongoing dialogue, which has been successfullyachieved in New Zealand. The country has a large Halal exportmarket that requires that all animals are to be stunned first. Professor Reilly says: "I do not believe that there is any scientifically robustevidence to support the contention that non-stun slaughter has thewelfare of the animal at its core." He concludes by saying that now is the time for UK vets to take astand on the issue in view of the forthcoming EU directive on theprotection of animals at the time of killing.
